Spooky Monday #3

Hey Lovelies!

First off, where do the weeks go !?!? Felt like just yesterday , I was scrambling for material for my second Spooky Monday Post!!

This week, I have some very spooky treats for you all ! I wanted to share with you, a magazine what I had bought a few years ago. It is the October/November 2007 issue of Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion!

Inside is an article about some spookily decorated front porches!

The caption reads:
"Sara Curtis amasses a huge collection of pumpkins each year - " The wartier, the better!" Her dog, Scout, makes sure none get smashed. Layered strands of lights and paper jack-o-lanters create a festive arched entryway. Right: Brimming with autumn-foiliage, an antique wicker child's backpack graces Ruth Touhill's door.

Caption:
This page:
Retro hinged jack-o'-lantern ornaments, left and inset, add pumpkin pizzazz to a dried honey-suckle vine wreath embellished with Japanese lantern pods and a welcoming bat. Below: Snacks and goodie bags (on a table layered with striped runners and an indian sari) beckon Trick or Treaters.

Another Spooky Cozy Porch!

Below captions:
Above: Vintage rattan furniture topped with comfy cushions is the perfect spot to kick back and watch the parade of Power Rangers and fairy princesses. To camouflage cords and create a dark and spooky ceiling effect, Sara double 3 foot strips of black tulle and slip knotted them between lantern lights.

Clockwise:
Perched behind a porch swing, Blackie awaits midnight mischief. In an ode to Hitchcock, Sara tricked out the trellis of a funky 1950s bamboo planter with a posable crow, bird silhouettes printed on yellow vellum paper, and a vintage inspired Halloween banner. Black cat brownies look almost too cute to eat !

Below captions:

Spode China patterned with burnt orange flowers, and antler horn serving utensils add fall flavor to alfresco dining. Chinaberries pop against a red door.

To add a sophisticated autumn touch to the 150 year old solid stone home, Ruth twisted hops vines around bamboo posts embedded into large flowerpots on either side of the back door.

In the center of the magazine are a couple fun treats !!
Here are some cutout Halloween/Autumn paper dolls, you can print them out at your leisure

Here is a drawing by Mary Engelbreit herself!

Great post! I thought for a second that might have been a new copy of an old favorite, but it wasn't. I sure miss that magazine!

I love the black tulle hanginf on the porch, and of course your little collection.

Hi Justina,
I just read the very sweet compliment you left on an older blog post of mine. Thank you so much! I am enjoying your blog as well. I too am an autumn lover who was born in the cold month of January.
