Amas Veritas

This post is a tribute to one of my all time FAVORITE movies, PRACTICAL MAGIC, I will post some of my favorite quotes and moments, and also some interesting recipes that the girls try in this wickedly enchanting movie !! :

Do you always trust your first initial feeling
Special knowledge holds truth bears believing
I turned around
And the water was closing all around
Like a glove
Like the love that had finally, finally found me

Then I knew
In the crystalline knowledge of you
Drove me through the mountains
Thru the crystal-like clear water fountain
Drove me like a magnet
To the sea

How the faces of love have changed turning
the pages
And I have changed oh, but you...
you remain ageless
I turned around
And the water was closing all around
Like a glove
Like the love that had finally, finally found me

And I knew
In the crystalline knowledge of you
Drove me through the mountains
Thru the crystal-like clear water fountain
Drove me like a magnet
To the sea...

"Let's go inside and do some spells!!"

"What wouldn't I do, for the right guy?"

"Magic isn't just spells and potions..."

"Do you ever put your arms out and spin and spin and spin? Well, that's what love is like..."

"Be careful what you wish for..."

Mint Oatmeal Shaving Cream

"He really loved my mint oatmeal shaving cream, couldn't stop eating it..."

It always intrigued me when Sally talked about edible shaving cream, so I thought I'd look up a recipe for it and see what I find... Here is an interesting organic alternative to get your legs silky smooth!!

Things You'll Need:

Mortar and Pestle

Electric Mixer

One cup of Plain Rolled Oats

A handful of dried mint leaves

Small Container of ORGANIC heavy whipping cream

1 ORGANIC egg white

1. Use the mortar and pestle to grind Oats and Mint into a fine powder, or at least as fine as you can get it. This will probably be the longest part of the creation process. Put the ground ingredients to the side.

2. Using the mixer, beat the egg white until stiff peaks form, a little thicker consistency than a meringue. Then, in a separate bowl, beat the whipping cream until it becomes a foamy whipped cream. You may need to add a pinch of oats/mint to help it along.

3. Combine the egg whites with the whipped cream; whip together on a medium speed. As you're whipping, gradually add the dry ingredients. When completed, the mixture will be thick and creamy, sort of frothy (sort of like dispensed shaving cream). It's ready for use!

"Eye of newt, toe of frog, wing of bat, tongue of dog.
Adder’s fork and blind worm’s sting…
Barbados lime is just the thing.
Fragias salt, like a sailors stubble…
Flip the switch, and let the cauldron bubble!"

Ingredients

  • For each serving
  • 2 ounces dark Rum
  • 1 ounce Blue Curacao
  • 1/2 ounce Grenadine
  • 4 ounces lime mix (see below)
  • Lime Mix: blend together 1 cup lime juice and 1 cup sugar until sugar is dissolved. Keep refrigerated until use.

Method

Fill a shaker with ice cubes, add all the ingredients and shake until well blended. Strain into a margarita glass filled with fresh crushed ice.

Notes: You must use the exact ratios to result in this deliciously dark margarita that is perfect for any celebration, but particularly perfect for Halloween.

Number of Servings: 1

1tablespoonbutteror margarine, melted

Oh Justina! I just adore Practical Magic! It is one of my favorite movies that I watch over and over again.

Here's just one of many of my favorite quotes from the movie...

"My darling girl, when are you going to realize that being normal is not necessarily a virtue? It rather denotes a lack of courage!"

I love those crazy Aunts!

Have you read the book Garden Spells?

:-D I just love love love PM! There are so many great quotes from that movie... I could also watch it over and over and over again ! My DVD has so many scratches on it , if it ever got completely ruined, I think i'd just have to buy a new one, I just cannot live without that movie in my collection!

No I have not read Garden Spells... is that an Alice Hoffman book as well?

This was the best post, Justina! I LOVE Practical Magic. And finding these awesome recipes - wow....just very cool. :) I love Alice Hoffman's books. Have you read "The Ice Queen?" It's one of my faves! By the way, "House of Dolls" is a beautiful book. :) Theresa

Garden Spells is written by Sarah Addison Allen - it reminds me of Practical Magic.

I've never read any Alice Hoffman books - I'll have to check her out.

OOoOoO I'll def have to check out Garden Spells and Ice Queen... I can't wait to read House of Dolls!!!

Also another great Francesca Lia Block read is Quakeland... it is kinda sad in some ways, and it could be kind of confusing the way Block jumps around with her storyline, but I thought it was an overall beautiful book....

Oh this is too funny that we both were thinking of Practical Magic at the same time! Great minds think alike, lol! LOVE your post! And I do love this movie so much...I think I know all the lines by heart. If you haven't read Garden Spells it's alot like PM too! You know I was thinking yesterday since so many of us love this movie...maybe doing a PM blog party for fall...hmmmm....

Justina said...

OH.
MY.
GAAAAAAD!!!!
I cannot get over this!

Ok, so...
First of all, I had planned on writing a post about Practical Magic today because it is one of my favorite movies. I don't know why I was thinking about it today. I just was.

SECOND OF ALL... I went out at lunch to get a book to read. I didn't realize that this was a bestselling novel before it was a movie. I also thought it was weird that I came across it after thinking about posting about it today...

Long story longer, I have the novel on my desk RIGHT NOW.

The other book in my hand as I walked to the register? GARDEN SPELLS.

I'm sorry if I'm over-reacting. LOL. I just think this is a completely insane coincidence... especially since most people make fun of me for loving that movie so much.

So crazy!

I'm thrilled that someone else loves it as much as me.

xoxo!

One of my favorites for sure. I wish I had a house like that...and dont tell anyone, but sometimes, "In this house we have chocolate cake for breakfast. And we never bother with silly things like bedtimes" :)
